Apply to join AAAAI for an intensive, four-day program on hypersensitivity research and career development. This invitation-only Summer School provides a special opportunity for 30 emerging physicians and scientists who are committed to an academic career in allergic diseases to receive individualized mentorship from established faculty.

Invited participants will be asked to provide a presentation of completed or ongoing clinical, translational or basic research during the program. Faculty will lead small group break-outs to discuss the essential aspects of a career in research, including managing a research team, budgeting, publishing and maintaining a work-life balance. Presentations from the NIAID will also address NIH grants and research funding processes.

The 2018 AAAAI Hypersensitivity Summer School is accepting applications from new allergist/immunologists who meet all three eligibility requirements:

  1. Senior Fellow-in-training or Junior Faculty, as defined below.
    Senior Fellow-in-training: an individual who will have completed at least one year of training in Allergy/Immunology by the time of the School and will still hold a training position at the time of the School.
    Junior Faculty: an individual who graduated from a clinical Allergy/Immunology training program in 2014 or later and will hold a faculty position at the time of the School.
  2. Based at an accredited institution in the United States or Canada.
  3. Committed to attending the full duration of the program.
    Accepted participants are expected to be in attendance beginning at 6:00pm on Thursday, August 9, 2018 until 11:00am on Sunday, August 12, 2018. Requests to arrive late or depart early will be denied.

Following the submission deadline, 2018 AAAAI Hypersensitivity Summer School faculty will review all applications. Review criteria include:

  • Quality of submitted research project
  • Letter of recommendation
  • Statement of career goals, anticipated benefits of attendance, and commitment to the field
  • Level of training

All accepted applicants are required to become members of AAAAI. Accepted applicants will be provided with travel grants to assist with airfare, hotel and meal expenses.
