Plenary session 3101 from the 2017 AAAAI Annual Meeting covers new areas of clinical and translational research directly related to the 2017 meeting theme of Drug Allergy. Subjects include the importance of proper diagnosis of penicillin allergy from a public health perspective, practical and evidenced-based approaches for diagnosis and management of patients with AERD, and allergic reactions to new biologics.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Discuss the significant morbidity associated with inappropriate labeling of patients with penicillin allergy and review strategic methods for de-labeling penicillin allergic patients
  • Discuss the pathophysiology of AERD and the approach to management of patients with AERD
  • Discuss and characterize the features of hypersensitivity reactions to biologics and develop a management strategy for future administrations
