ForwardNESA 2020 Allied Health Practitioners' Update
Due to concerns about COVID-19 and increasing numbers of travel and meeting restrictions, the NESA Spring Meetings have been canceled. Any further information will be posted here as it is received from NESA leadership.
The Allied Health Practitioners Allergy Update is the major educational activity for nurses sponsored by the New England Society of Allergy. This update is offered during each spring meeting of the society. It is organized by a dedicated group of allergy society nurses. The goal of The Allergy Nurses Update is to provide continuing education in asthma, allergy, and clinical immunology for allied health personnel working in the specialty and to provide a forum for networking. It is a one-day program designed for allergy nurses by the clinical staff members of the society.
The Physicians' Meeting that takes place in the afternoon on the 3rd is also approved for nursing credit, and allied health practitioners are welcome to attend. Please note that if you plan to attend the morning Allied Health meeting and the afternoon Physicians' meeting, you need to register and pay separately for each:

Registration Fees
PLEASE NOTE:
- All attendees must register under her or his own account in the AAAAI system.
- There is no group registration option on this site. A single payment can be made for groups, but you must first contact Gail at AAAAI (414-272-6071) to discuss this option before anyone registers.
- If you do not have an account, you will be prompted to create one before registering (free, no membership required).
- If you are unsure if you have a AAAAI account, please contact the AAAAAI Education Team at [email protected] so someone can check the database. Duplicate accounts cause unnecessary confusion and delays in receiving payments and marking attendance.

Walk-in registration will begin on Friday, April 3, at 7:30 am. There will be a $50 late registration fee for walk-in attendees.
Target Audience
Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants & Medical Assistants who care for people with allergic diseases and any NESA physician member desiring additional CME credits.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- List current biologics used in a allergy practice for specific allergic disease processes
- Outline the process of Peanut Oral Immunotherapy in an allergy practice
- Identify which patients should be considered for treatment and the protocol patients will need to follow after treatment
- Recognize eosinophilic esophagitis, how it presents in different patients, and the treatment involved in helping these patients
- Describe rush immunotherapy, which patients should be considered for rush immunotherapy, and the protocol involved to administer in the office setting
- List basic antibodies and how they affect the patient being seen in an allergy practice
- Review the final requirements of USP 797 (Making: Extracts in the Office Setting)
- Instruct patients on how to implement techniques used to treat eczema
- Teach patients how to identify which medications are most helpful for different skin conditions
- Identify anaphylactic reactions that occur in the office, and how to treat them in a variety of testing situations

Credit Claiming Period
Credit claiming for this activity will expire at 11:59 pm on December 31, 2020. Requests to claim credit on or after January 1, 2021 will be subject to an administrative fee.
Medium and Method of Physician Participation for a Live Activity
Follow these steps to complete the activity:

- Attend the meeting. Be sure to sign in so your attendance can be recorded.
- Return to the online meeting site after the meeting and complete the post-test, if required. You must achieve a score of 70% or higher on post-tests to claim credit.

- Claim your credits. Enter only the number of credits earned based on your participation in the activity.
