Newborn screening for lymphopenia is now being done in all 50 states by measuring TRECs. This session will elucidate the evolution and meaning of this testing; benefits and limitations; and most importantly, delineate implications for practitioners. It will also provide an overview of current management of severe combined immunodeficiency (SCID).

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Define and discuss newborn screening for lymphopenia via TRECs
    Describe management of the newborn with SCID
    Plan and implement the management and care of the infant with lymphopenia, secondary to etiologies other than SCID
