Now that oral immunotherapy is accessible to a broader audience, allergist/immunologits need an understanding of which patients are pursuing OIT and why. One way to find out what the general public is saying about food allergies and OIT is through platforms such as social media.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Describe the beliefs and concerns of families pursuing OIT, and understand how these have been affected by the release of an FDA approved therapy for peanut allergy
  • Identify themes of food allergy information propagated by social media
  • Identify characteristics of patients who are motivated to seek OIT, and who would benefit the most from OIT
