Beyond the Doctor’s Office: Telehealth for PIDD Patient Care
Given the current global pandemic, telehealth consultations are an integral aspect to providing support for patients with PIDD by increasing satisfaction, aiding in initial diagnosis, and decreasing the burden of multiple specialist visits. Due to an increased risk of infection, the PIDD patient needs enhanced medical support to include patient outreach and deliberate telehealth strategies designed to minimize the risk of exposure to the COVID-19 virus. Patients and HCPs may be reluctant to connect via remote telehealth options due to lack of knowledge, skills, or confidence. This module aims to prepare HCPs to conduct effective telehealth visits with PIDD patients.
This module encourages learners to identify the best PIDD patients for a telehealth consultation and exemplify how a telehealth visit can be used to aid in routine care and enhance communication strategies. Several practitioner and patient resources will help participants learn how to address self-care and mental health concerns which impact the patient and their overall health.
Providing Enhanced Medical Support for Patients with Primary Immunodeficiency Disorders (PIDD) is funded through an educational grant from Pfizer.

Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Select types of patient visits which are best suited for a telehealth consultation
- Identify the fundamental elements that are required for an effective telehealth consultation
- Utilize a patient-centered approach to structuring and managing a telehealth consultation
- Conduct a telehealth visit with a diagnosed or suspected PIDD patient
