Signs and Symptoms of PIDD
In a 2021 survey of 300 PIDD patients, 41% of the adults reported that it took over 21 years beyond the onset of their first symptom to receive a final PIDD diagnosis, 59% reported that their PIDD was initially diagnosed as a different disorder, and many felt their symptoms were dismissed by healthcare providers. These findings indicate the importance of shortening time to diagnosis.
This module reviews signs and symptoms of PIDD and highlights the most important questions to ask patients to understand their full range of symptoms. Importantly, it covers commonly-missed symptoms and outlines treatment options for PIDDs. Finally, it shares suggestions for providing whole-patient care and testimonials from PIDD patients who share portions of their health journey and recommendations for HCPs working with PIDD patients.

Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Identify signs and symptoms of PIDD, including those that are commonly-missed
- Choose communication strategies that facilitate patient disclosure of symptoms
- Recognize the needs of patients with primary immunodeficiencies and identify strategies to optimize their care
- Be familiar with existing patient resources that will help patients engage in their diagnosis and care
