Plenary 3101: More Than a Barrier: The Roles of Airway Epithelium in Healthy and Allergic Metabolic and Immune Responses
This session will outline the roles of novel airway epithelial cell subsets, including chemosensory tuft cells, ion-transporting ionocytes and pulmonary neuroendocrine cells in asthma and other respiratory diseases. The presenters will describe how these subsets sense environmental cues, including allergens, microbial metabolites, ions and neurotransmitters, and how they process this information to regulate ionic balance, mucosal leukocytes and type-2 immune responses in health, inflammatory and allergic airway disease.
