4503: Using Component Based Diagnostics and Effective Allergen Doses for Diagnosis and Subcutaneous Immunotherapy Treatment
Prescription of immunotherapy requires an understanding of cross-reactivity patterns, extract stability, and optimal dosing. The application of component based diagnostic testing may enhance prescribing patterns. In addition, math free guidelines assist with determining effective maintenance dose ranges and optimal extract stability for SCIT, but complicating factors such as volume limitations, glycerin concentration, and unit limits put in place by insurance may limit application of these guidelines. Lack of understanding or variation in relevant allergenic epitopes in some cases may lead to decreased efficacy of this therapy as well. This seminar will use case scenarios and simulated prescription writing to review allergic cross-reactivity patterns, allergen extract stability patterns, optimal dosage goals and ways in which component based diagnostics may enhance currently used methods.
Credit claiming for this activity will be available through December 31, 2021. Requests to claim credit on or after January 1, 2022 will be subject to an administrative fee

Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Summarize the math-free guidelines for allergen doses and glycerin concentrations
- Discuss cross-reactivity patterns of pollens and the stability of different extracts when mixed together (pollens vs molds vs danders vs dust mites), and how component based diagnostics may be applied to determine relevant allergens
- Discuss case scenarios and how one may formulate a patient's immunotherapy prescription
