2015 VAM: 4303 - NHLBI’s Clinical Asthma Research Network’s (AsthmaNet) Update on Answers to Key Asthma Questions

AsthmaNet is a nationwide clinical research network created by the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI) in 2009. The purpose of AsthmaNet is to develop and conduct multiple clinical trials, mechanistic studies, and proof of concept studies that explore new approaches to treating asthma from childhood through adulthood. This recording discusses the results of studies to date from this effort and provides a preview of work in progress.

1.  Identify the role of azithromycin for preventing the development of upper respiratory tract illness into lower respiratory tract symptoms in children
2.  Discuss challenges in determining the role of oral corticosteroids for treating episodes of significant lower respiratory tract symptoms
3.  Discuss the role of vitamin D as a therapeutic agent for treating symptomatic patients with asthma and vitamin D deficiency
