2024 FARE (Food Allergy Research and Education) Summit

The FARE (Food Allergy Research and Education) Summit is a weekend of educational sessions on innovation in food allergy, school management of food allergies, the latest in therapeutics and diagnostics of food allergy, and psychosocial sequelae of food allergies.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Explain how innovation in food allergy treatment may alter your practice and management
  • Describe how the microbiome can be important in preventing and in managing food allergies.
  • Discuss the overarching laws that protect the food allergy population under Section 504 and the ADA. 
  • Recognize food allergy treatments and regimen that patients may be undergoing and learn how this may alter your practice. 
  • Discuss the new proposed guidelines supported by the CDC and the AAP that will impact food allergy management in schools. 
  • Describe the foods that will cause reactions in patients with alpha gal. 
  • Explain a repercussion of food allergies that is not widely discussed (disordered eating) and learn how to recognize, prevent and manage patients with disordered eating. 
  • Discuss the health inequities that face some food allergy communities and how food insecurity can make management of food allergies even more difficult
  • Describe new delivery methods of epinephrine in the event of anaphylaxis and understand the proposed revisions to 2023 Anaphylaxis Practice Parameters
  • Explain the multifactorial reasons behind the drastic increase in food allergies over the past 2 decades and learn how we can use this knowledge to better serve the community
  • Describe the overarching laws that protect the food allergy population under Section 504 and the ADA. 
  • Recognize the limitations that currently exist for food allergy and how this can cause overrestriction of diet and learn about new diagnostic tools that are being investigated
  • Discuss how to better serve individuals with allergies that lie outside of the top 9 that are labeled in the US, and learn how to effectively protect them through careful label reading and investigation of the foods being prepared. 
  • Describe how conditions other than food allergy, such as eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) and FPIES  require different diagnostic tools, daily management and treatment.
  • Discuss how an individual with food allergy is at increased risk of being bullied and experinecing psychosocial repercussions of food allergy and learn ways to help those individuals cope with this added burden
  • Discuss the evidence and current recommendations for early introduction of allergens in infants to help decrease the risk of development of a food allergy
