2024 New England Society of Allergy Spring Allied Health Meeting

The Allied Health Practitioners Allergy Update is the major educational activity for nurses sponsored by the New England Society of Allergy. This update is offered during each spring meeting of the society. It is organized by a dedicated group of allergy society nurses. The goal of The Allergy Nurses Update is to provide continuing education in asthma, allergy, and clinical immunology for allied health personnel working in the specialty and to provide a forum for networking. It is a one-day program designed for allergy nurses by the clinical staff members of the society.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Identify and understand FPIES and how it is triggered.
  • Distinguish eczematous causes unique to pediatrics and how to manage pediatric eczema.
  • Identify the mechanisms that lead to hereditary angioedema and the medications used to treat it.
  • Explain the functions of antibodies and how they are encode immunologic memory.
  • Determine which patients have the indications for obtaining a spirometry and the proper techniques for preforming one.
  • Discuss the general process for drug allergy testing including skin testing and challenges.
  • Explain how food allergy impacts issues related to food insecurity in children and their families
