Our annual meeting is a one day event that features invited speakers with expertise on Wisconsin Allergy Society Annual Meeting Allergy/Immunology topics. In addition, fellows from the University of Wisconsin training program present interesting case reports on patient consults. We are excited to host this year's event at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, WI. Speakers for the event include Michael Wechsler, MD (National Jewish) presenting on the management of EGPA in 2024 and beyond, as well as current and future biologic therapies for severe asthma. We also will be hosting Vamsi Guntur, MD (National Jewish) who will be presenting on acute management of asthma as well as the game-changing paradigm shift in rescue therapy in asthma.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • How to properly diagnose and manage EGPA
  • Compare and contrast current biologic therapeutics available for asthma management
  • Conceptualize treatment options for both inpatient and outpatient acute asthma care
  • Identify patients with asthma whose symptoms are not well controlled based on clinical and/or spirometric criteria.
  • Distinguish which asthma patients may benefit from rescue short-acting beta agonist (SABA) alone compared with those who may benefit from using anti-inflammatory reliever (AIR) therapy as needed for acute symptoms of asthma based on GINA 2023 recommendations
  • Determine clinical scenarios where AIR-only therapy or maintenance and reliever therapy (MART) with inhaled corticosteroid-formoterol may be used to improve outcomes in patients with symptomatic asthma, Identify and develop approaches to overcome barriers to integrating AIR or MART with an ICS-formoterol or ICS-albuterol to the regimen for appropriate patients with symptomatic asthma
  • Review important aspects of angioedema history and exam, Consider differential diagnosis for lip swelling and angioedema,
  • Discuss management options for rare etiologies or mimics of angioedema
  • Describe mechanisms of iron infusion reactions, Recognize risk factors for iron infusion reactions,
  • Compare and contrast different formulations of iron infusions available and summarize available desensitization protocols for iron infusions

This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the accreditation requirements and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint providership of AAAAI and the Wisconsin Allergy Society. The AAAAI is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Designation Statement

The American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology designates this live activity for a maximum of 5.50 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
