2016 VAM: 2815 - When Writing a Script Just Isn’t Enough:  Strategies to Overcome Barriers Associated with Poor Asthma Control in Older Adults

Overview

Provide participants with evidence-based approaches to improve asthma control in older adults, with consideration for both medication and non-medication related strategies. Approaches to distinguish asthma symptoms from co-morbid illness, as well as strategies to safely and effectively manage older asthmatics with particular physical and cognitive co-morbidities, including depression and dementia, will be discussed. In addition, strategies to discuss and achieve shared goals, with consideration for financial and side-effect related concerns, will be presented. Non-medication therapeutic approaches such as pulmonary rehabilitation will also be discussed.
