CME Overview

The AAAAI certifies a variety of continuing education activities for credit each year. These include both live meetings and print and online enduring materials. Some are developed by the AAAAI, and several are completed through joint efforts with academic institutions, lay and non-profit organizations, and the Regional, State and Local Allergy, Asthma and Immunology Societies (RSLAAIS).

If you are planning a continuing education activity, either as part of an AAAAI committee or an outside organization, we welcome you to apply to the AAAAI to certify your program for credit. The AAAAI is accredited to provide AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ for physicians by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) and nursing hours by the California Board of Registered Nursing (CBRN). Your activity must meet these organizations’ requirements in order to be certified by the AAAAI.

For more information on these requirements and to view the AAAAI needs assessment and practice gaps document and AAAAI policies, please review the links and documents on the Planning Resources tab.

Instructions

To apply to the AAAAI to request certification of your activity, you must follow these steps:

  1. Complete the online activity application
    • Complete all application components in full to facilitate faster turnaround
    • Submit application no fewer than 120 days before the activity start date
  2. Submit payment for the application fee through the online payment portal
  3. Have your planning committee and all confirmed faculty complete an online conflict-of-interest disclosure as soon as possible after you submit your application
  4. Notify AAAAI staff as soon as possible if you wish to apply for commercial support
    • AAAAI, as the accreditor, must apply for grants on your organization's behalf
    • Most pharmaceutical companies have a fairly narrow window for applying for grants

Please note that review and approval of your continuing education activity requires a significant amount of staff and volunteer member time and effort.Timing of application submission is especially important if you are planning a live meeting or course and/or intend to request external funding to support your activity. AAAAI staff can discuss these arrangements with you in more detail. Please contact the Education Team at cme@aaaai.org if you have any questions about this process.
