On January 1, 2021, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) will implement key modifications in coding and documentation for office and outpatient evaluation and management (E/M) services. Are you prepared for the changes? Join us for an overview of 2021 E/M updates, including best practices for your clinical documentation, selecting a code by based on time or medical decision making (MDM), and details about the new complexity add-on code, GPCX1. Panelists will also discuss the anticipated allergy/immunology reimbursement rates and potential legislative and regulatory approaches that may impact A/I reimbursements.
Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology Provisions in H.R. 133, the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2021 Physician Relief - In recognition of the financial struggles faced by physicians and other health care providers during the COVID-19 pandemic, Congress responded to requests from AAAAI and other stakeholders urging Congress to ensure that essential changes in Medicare payments for office visits and other related evaluation and management (E/M) services are fully implemented as planned in January 1, 2021. In addition to allowing the E/M changes to proceed, Congress added a one-year across the board increase of 3.75% for all physicians in 2021 to mitigate the impact of budget neutrality provisions in the physician fee schedule. AAAAI applauds that this increase is equitable across all services and specialties. The package includes a moratorium on the implementation of a new code, G2211 for complex office visits, which AAAAI and other stakeholders sought and will continue to advocate for its implementation.
