This overview describes direct interpretation of Pulmonary Function Tests to improve diagnostic and technical skills of the in-training or practicing allergist/immunologst in either an academic or private practice setting.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Describe PFT manifestations of obstructive and restrictive lung disease
  • Recognize obstructive and restrictive lung disease patterns on the flow volume loop
  • Recognize variable and fixed obstructive patterns including vocal cord dysfunction and describe technically acceptable PFTs
  • Recognize fixed vs. reversible obstruction
  • Differentiate parenchymal from extrinsic restrictive defects
